Mongil is a colourful 3D action role-playing game (ARPG) that is loosely based on the classic mobile release from back in 2013 Monster Taming. The team behind the original title was here to develop this novel idea by re-purposing it for modern day standards with more platforms. The game, which is offering global release on April 7, 2026 via PC (Epic Games Store and Netmarble Launcher), iOS, Android devices as well as any modern PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S or hand held gaming device based solely using Unreal Engine 5. It fuses cinematic storytelling, fast-paced real-time combat with a special monster-collecting system in the grand fantasy realm where humans and monsters rub elbows alongside elves and beastkin of all varieties.
The story revolves around the adventures of two members from an adventurer guild, Cloud — a headstrong young fighter who has been having dreams that seem prophetic and his clever and analytical companion Verna. Alongside a shadowy, cat-like object called Nyanners (or Meow) the trio go on guild missions spanning Belana's many regions from Hananis to far East. On their journey investigating strange ecological shifts and the "wound of the world" foretold in Cloud’s nightmares, they meet a vibrant cast of support characters like Mina (a nine-tailed fox descendant half-demon from divine maidens) and Francis (the prodigious healer). The game mixes comedic, irreverent exploration with labyrinthine lore presented in luxurious animated cut-scenes.
MONGIL's gameplay involves the real-time "Triple Tag Team Action" which is unlike most turn-based monster-taming games. Players build a team of three protagonists, who are each assigned one combat role (Fighter, Assassin, Destroyer and Support) as well as elemental attributes(Fire, Ice Wind Lightning Land). In the course of combat, you will play as one character at a time and even switch mid-combo between characters with "Tag Skills," packed into seamless action. The real strategic depth relies on exploiting elemental weaknesses and boss stagger gauges, which Destroyer-role characters do by breaking defenses for burst damage opportunities. Timed dodging and swiping makes combat easy to learn, yet rewarding for skill.
Central to the gameplay is a core mechanic of "Monsterlings"—the crystallized essence, or magic stones that stay behind when monsters die. Using Nyanners, you can tame weary monsters by turning them into portable "Monster Rings," also known as charms. Character can even wear them, which adds stat buffs and unique passive traits; they–at certain points in the game some people will find managements where they still revert into a full monster if need be (most notably activated by pouring hot water using puzzles or combat). Over 150 base monsters (and unlockable variants) to collect, synthesize and upgrade for a robust Monster Codex; customizing your team through simple yet deep gameplay systems.
MONGIL features complete cross-progression and cross-play support, allowing players to explore Belana's semi-open world at their own pace, grinding dailies on mobile or cinematic boss raids on PC and consoles. This mix of anime-inspired visuals, silly narrative tone and tag-team action layered between deep monster-taming strategy makes this a unique title in both the modern action RPG and creature-collector genres.
