Backpack Battles is a PvP inventory management auto-battler from that PlayWithFurcifer, co-published with IndieArk. It was released for Microsoft Windows in Early Access through Steam on March 8, 2024 and subsequently exited Early Access to a full release on June 13, 2025. Developed on Godot, it is playable in Windows and Linux, and can be downloaded in many online platforms.

The heart of the core gameplay of Backpack Battles is all about Bag Management and engaging in asynchronous multiplayer combat. A match up to 18 rounds which comprise: a Shop Phase and then the Battle Phase.

In the shop segment, players are able to spend gold gained each turn on items of different shapes & sizes prices and rarity. The key strategic piece is item placement; the more intelligently you place your items, the better your build. The adjacency system allows items to interact with one another, resulting in very powerful synergies that you can also find in games like Super Auto Pets and Backpack Hero.

Players are able to also combine gear, by putting certain items next to each other that end up fusing together into legendary swords and potions or even a pet dragon! The game boasts more than 500 unique collectibles across five different rarity levels: Common, Rare, Epic Legend heavy.

Combat has been fully simulated—players actually pit their army against another build from real opponents without any direct interaction. Items trigger when cooldown timers or conditions meet, delivering damage and buffs (regeneration/luck/thorns) on activation as well as pollen fields/flexibles (like poison/blind/freeze). The round is won by the last player standing.

There are seven classes to select from, with five subclasses each: the Berserker, Pyromancer, Reaper Range and Mage – which is a new addition. Different backpacks and item pools for each class allows you to tackle builds like a critical hit build or poison damage-over-time build.

Backpack Battles has several modes to accommodate different play styles: in the Casual ( Unranked ), you can play at your leisure without timers; in the Ranked, you can compete with Point system against similarly matched players; in the Custom Rules, you can adjust gold, health, and other parameters; in the Lobbies, it is all about real time matches with friends or streamers.

The game has mostly positive reviews on Steam, earning an 88% very positive user review rate from over 14,978 reviews. The Early Access version of the game sold over 640,000 copies within its first month alone — and more than half of all those sales came from Asia. It is credited with being the foundational title for a "Backpack-like" sub-genre, and it is lauded addictive nature blends containerization satisfaction with rich tactical combat.
